About ProACT Training Courses
Autism in the Classroom (3 hours)
Course Overview
Having a diagnosis of autism often means that a person may find some aspects of daily life more difficult than other people. Commonly, children with autism can find the structure and routine of a classroom setting comforting, or conversely they can find it unsettling, over-stimulating and often over-whelming which can lead to behavioural issues and a decrease in learning opportunities.
This course is ideal for anyone supporting a child on the autism spectrum in a classroom environment. The content offers a quick refresher on autism and identifies some of the common difficulties faced by those on the spectrum in educational settings – including the sensory environment, communication problems, predictability and behavioural difficulties.
Our experienced trainer has nearly 20 years’ experience working as a specialist in the field of autism and behaviour. He uses a combination of short talks, video, workshop activities and group discussion to suit a range of learning styles and will happily welcome questions and offer supportive strategies throughout the course.
